Most people don't think about their AC until it stops working. By then, it's usually the hottest day of the year and you're looking at an emergency service call - or worse, a full replacement. Regular maintenance is exactly how you avoid that situation.
Here's what a proper tune-up actually looks like. We pop the top off the outdoor condenser unit and vacuum out all the debris that's built up inside - leaves, dirt, seeds, whatever found its way in. You'd be surprised how much junk accumulates in there over a season. A compressor buried under a layer of debris can't do its job efficiently, and over time that extra strain adds up.
Inside, we climb up into the attic to inspect the air handler. We check the drain lines, look over the coil, and verify that any add-ons like UV germicidal light systems are functioning correctly. That UV lamp isn't just a nice extra - it actively works to keep mold and bacteria from growing on the evaporator coil, which directly affects the air quality inside your home. If it's burned out, it's not doing anything for you.
The whole point of a tune-up is to catch small problems before they become expensive ones. A clogged coil, a failing capacitor, a blocked drain line - these are all things we can spot and address during routine maintenance. Left alone, any one of them can take a system down at the worst possible time.
A little maintenance really does go a long way. If your system hasn't been looked at in a while, now is a good time to get it done before the heat really kicks in and everyone else has the same idea.
